Lawrence promoted to KDOT Highway Maintenance Supervisor
The Kansas Department of Transportation
The Kansas Department of Transportation has promoted Jason Lawrence of Dighton to Highway Maintenance Supervisor for the Dighton/Lane County Subarea. As Highway Maintenance Supervisor, Lawrence coordinates and leads the Dighton Subarea crew responsible for highway maintenance in Lane County.
Lawrence was born and raised in Dighton, graduated from Dighton High School and attended Goodland Area Vo-Tech. He joined KDOT as an Equipment Operator Trainee in 2001, was promoted to Equipment Operator later that year, then promoted to Equipment Operator Senior in 2006 and to Equipment Operator Specialist in 2012.
Lawrence received the Example of Excellence award in 2018 as part of the team that rebuilt the salt dome and remote equipment shed in Lane County. He received a KDOT safety award as part of the Dighton Subarea crew and was recognized with a KDOT HERO award in 2012 as part of a KDOT snow plow team that plowed the way from an ambulance transporting a critical patient from Scott to Hays during white out conditions.
Lawrence has had many memorable moments while at KDOT, but the most memorable was finding a leather biker vest while mowing. The vest had several biker patches on it and Lawrence knew it was important to the owner. After visiting with other bikers around the area, he was able to locate the owner and return the vest. While he likes the variety of his job and enjoys doing different things from day to day, Lawrence says that the best thing about his job is being able to help others when they are in need.
