Dodge City’s Regan Gerber signs with Hutchinson CC

DODGE CITY, Kan. — Dodge City High School senior Regan Gerber signed her National Letter of Intent with Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday morning inside the DCHS Auditorium. Gerber will be continuing her softball career with the Blue Dragons next school year.

“It’s obviously close to home, so I’ll be closer to my parents,” Gerber said. “They have the major I offered, which was a big in playing apart in what’s going to help me be successful in the future. When I went on my visit to Hutch, it just felt like home.”

Gerber helped lead the DCHS softball program to a 16-6 record and a regional runner-up finish in 2019 and has her eyes set on making it to the 6A state tournament in 2020.

“You can expect a big difference from the way I hit, to the way I catch, to the way I field,” Gerber said. “It will be a good spring season and I’m ready.”

Gerber chose HCC over Oklahoma Panhandle State University, Langston University, Cottey College and Vernon Community College.

Gerber has spent this fall playing with the Tulsa Elite softball organization and has improved a lot on her game and has been able to travel throughout the state and the midwest over the past few months. It’ll be a smooth transition for Gerber come next fall, as she will be joined by two or three others from her Tulsa Elite team on the Blue Dragons roster.

The Blue Dragons have been a prominent success in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, but have moved up to Division I this past season. Hutchinson is led by head coach Jaime Rose. It wasn’t Rose that contacted Gerber first, it was assistant coach Ray Aguirre.

“Coach Ray is the one who reached out to me first and he showed so much interest in me,” Gerber said. “Coach Rose definitely is a phenomenal coach, coach Ray is a phenomenal coach and I can’t wait to be apart of the Blue Dragons softball team.”

Gerber plans on majoring in Sports & Fitness Studies in hope of becoming an Athletic Trainer. She currently is apart of the Student Athletic Training program at DCHS.
