Tate Lowe Returns to Lead Dodge City Wrestling Program
DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City High School Athletic Department has announced Tate Lowe as the new Red Demon wrestling head coach, pending board approval.
Lowe, who was most recently the head coach at Valley Center High School will take over the program after Lars Lueders announced he would be taking the head job at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Wichita.
Lowe is a native of La Junta, Colorado and was a standout prep wrestler in Colorado. He tallied an overall record of 138-8 with the Tigers and was a two-time NWCA All-American. Lowe then wrestled collegiality at Western State College (now Western Colorado University) in Gunnison. While at WSC, he was roommates with Lueders, so the two had built a special bond on and off the mat. Lowe was a three-year letter winner for the Mountaineers.
After Lueders had taken the Dodge City job, he had called Lowe and wanted him to join the staff as an assistant. Lowe then served as an assistant wrestling coach, as well as assistant football at both Dodge City High School and Comanche Middle School coach for six years.
After serving six years as an assistant under Lueders, Lowe accepted an assistant job at Valley Center High School. Lowe was an assistant under Brian Shelton for one year before taking over the program as the head coach in 2016. Lowe most recently helped lead the Hornets to a class 5A third place finish at state in 2017 and a runner-up finish in 2018. He was also named the KWCA Class 5A Coach of the Year in 2017.
Lowe is looking forward to coming back to Dodge City, where he has many memories from his six years as an assistant. His wife, Megan, will also benefit from the move, as her parents both live in Dodge City. Tate and Megan have two daughters, Taeven and Tymbree. Lowe will also serve as the running backs coach for the Red Demon football team in the fall.
