USD 457: Summer Food Service Program begins Monday

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Garden City Public Schools continues a program that provides summertime meals to children and youth in 2019.  The meals are free for anyone age 18 and under.  No reservations are needed for the meals.  While meals for youth 18 and under are free, adults my purchase a lunch at a cost of $4.00.

The 2019 summer breakfast and lunch program will take place Monday through Friday June 3rd – 28th at Abe Hubert Elementary School, Buffalo Jones Elementary, Florence Wilson Elementary, Gertrude Walker Elementary and Victor Ornelas Elementary School. Breakfast will be served 8:00 – 8:45 a.m. and lunch will be served 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.  Victor Ornelas Elementary School will serve lunch 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. 

Garfield Early Childhood Center will provide breakfast and lunch Monday – Thursday, June 3rd – 27th.  Breakfast will be served 8:00 – 8:45 a.m. and lunch will be served 10:45 – 11:00 a.m.

Horace Good Middle School will provide lunch Monday – Thursday, June 3rd – 27th and July 8th – 25th.  Lunch will be served 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Garden City High School will provide breakfast and lunch Monday – Friday, May 29th – July 27th.   Breakfast will be served 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. and lunch will be served 10:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

Sack lunches will be provided Monday through Thursday June 3rd – July 25th.  The sites and times include:

  • 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Crazy House, 3502 N Campus Dr.
  • 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Harold Long Park, 1001 E Spruce St.
  • 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Finney County Health Department, 919 Zerr Rd.
  • 11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Ayala Park, 216 N. Taylor Ave.
  • 12:30 – 1:15 p.m. at the Public Swimming Pool, 312 E Finnup Dr.

Finney County Public Library, 605 E Walnut Street, will serve sack lunches Monday – Saturday during June and July from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The meals are similar to those provided during the school year, providing an entree as well as plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.

The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is an equal opportunity provider.
