Velez appointed to District Magistrate Judge in Hamilton County

SYRACUSE, Kan. — Christopher “C.J.” Velez is appointed as District Magistrate Judge for Hamilton County and will be sworn in by Chief Judge Robert Frederick at a private robing ceremony on May 31, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. MDT at the Hamilton County Courthouse.
Mr. Velez was selected for appointment on May 10th, by a 12-member Nominating Commission consisting of local citizens and attorneys from the 25th Judicial District, presided over by Chief Judge E. Leigh Hood from the 16th Judicial District Judge.
A Delaware native, Mr. Velez received his undergraduate degree from High Point University and received his Juris Doctor from Washburn School of Law. Mr. Velez was admitted to the bar in Kansas in 2012, working in child support enforcement for Young Williams before opening his private practice in 2013, where he specialized in family law and estate planning. Mr. Velez is a member of the Kansas Bar Association and the Finney County Bar Association.
An open house is planned for July at the Hamilton County Courthouse for the public to meet Judge Velez.
