Mowry, Lewis medal at 3A State Golf
Emporia, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–After a 48-hour hiatus due to the rains on Monday and Tuesday, the Class 3A State Golf tournament at the Emporia Golf Course wrapped up Wednesday afternoon, after being suspended on Monday, due to the rain.
Two area athletes were able to take home top 20 finishes in the state. Cimarron’s Matthew Mowry finished ninth overall, shooting an eight-over, 79. The senior would be in a three-way tie for seventh, but finished third in the playoff. Also finishing in the top 20 was junior Jackson Lewis of Scott City. Lewis ended in a tie for 19th with a round of 83.
Also from Scott City, freshman Kale Wheeler just missed out on a top 20 finish, in a tie for 22nd with a score of 85, and Cimarron freshman Joshua Weishapl tied for 36th, shootingn a round of 88.
Sabetha’s David Pierson won the individual title, shooting a round of 76. Sabetha would also take the team title with a team score of 327. Caney Valley finished second with a score of 336, while Hesston and Phillipsburg tied for third with a team score of 339. Goodland was just one shot out of the trophy round with a score of 340 in fourth place.
