Buffalo girls soccer regional champs
The Garden City High School soccer team hosted a familiar foe on Tuesday night in Dodge City in the first round of Regional #2, getting the 4-0 victory.. It was a somber beginning, however, when Garden City’s Ivanee Medrano went down with a serious injury in the opening minute of the game.
After the major injury delay, Garden City was able to keep their focus and a goal by Noeli Munoz in the eighth minute put Garden City up 1-0. The Buffaloes controlled the ball on their side of the field for most of the first half and a 36th minute goal by Anahi Castillo gave Garden City a 2-0 lead.
Immediately after the goal, the game was delayed by lightning spotted in the area and both teams waited for a little over two hours for a storm to pass.
Garden City still kept their composure and aggressiveness coming out of the delay and would score in the 46th minute on a Haily Enriquez shot from 30 yards out. Nateara Beasley scored in the 61st minute off a Enriquez assist and Garden City would go on to get the 4-0 victory.
Garden City moves to 11-1-5 on the year, Dodge City falls to 4-12-2. Garden City will host 7th-seed Topeka High on Thursday.
