GCCC Celebrates “100th Birthday” and Scholarship Winners

GARDEN CITY, Kan. — On Monday, Garden City Community College celebrated the countywide vote that brought GCCC into existence, GCCC’s “Birthday,” with cake and the awarding of a $200 scholarship to four of the winners of the 100th Anniversary Scholarship contest that was initiated by Administrators and staff during the the 90th Anniversary of GCCC back in 2009.  Garden City High School students Dawnye Haynes, Tyrel Haynes, Connor Hipp, and Marissa Arteaga were among the scholarship winners represented and in attendance during the short ceremony.  

A total of 65 scholarship applications were received in 2009.  Up to 20 total scholarship winners will be awarded for the Fall 2019 semester.

This event was the launch of the 100th Anniversary of GCCC. Additional planned activities include, but are not limited to: an Athletic Hall of Fame Induction, a Centennial Gala, a Community Parade, and a fun family event on the campus quad.  The majority of the events and celebrations will take place on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28, centering on the Homecoming Football game, which will take place at 3:00 PM on September 28.
