GARDEN CITY, Kan. — Garden City Community College’s Cosmetology Department hosted a Matrix Interactive Day on Tuesday for students, local beauty professionals, and GCCC cosmetology alumni. Students and visiting professionals gathered to learn techniques for using the Matrix products. The demonstrations featured baylage, smudging, melting, and using these techniques for popular vibrant hair colors.
Matrix is an American professional haircare and hair color company. The visiting instructors, Lori Stafford– SalonCentric Sales Consultant, Isabelle Ruiz– Matrix Educator, and Alyssa Charelton– District Sales Manager, educated the group on the proper techniques and use of the Matrix products in the GCCC Cosmetology classrooms. The Matrix team had conducted similar demonstrations in Dodge and Liberal this earlier this week.
“The group today was so interactive, eager, and responsive, so it was a great day to come out,” said, Lori.
Cosmetology students at GCCC receive similar hair color and care training from their instructors throughout their coursework, but the Director of the Cosmetology School, Guillermina Hinde and Instructor Mia Horn are constantly bringing in demonstrators and hosting events to strengthen the educational opportunities and hands-on experiences for their students. We host [these events] all of the time, and they are just a part of the education,” said Horn.
Not only did students at GCCC get the chance to interact with the Matrix team, local professionals who are also alumni of GCCC’s Cosmetology program were invited to participate. “When the demonstrators come in, we get the education for our students, so we love to also extend that opportunity to past students or anyone in the industry that is a licensed professional, “ said, Hinde.
