Conq women draw Cloud in Region VI Playoffs

DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Dodge City Community College Conquistadors women’s basketball team will head to Concordia for the opening round of the Region VI Playoffs, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference announced on Sunday. The Conqs will meet Cloud County in Wednesday’s game, which is scheduled for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

Dodge City earned the No. 9 seed in the 16 team field with a 13-16 record, while the T-Birds received the No. 8 seed with a 17-12 record.

Both the Conqs and the T-Birds have already met once this season in Concordia. Cloud defeated DC3, 67-58. The Conqs have lost 27 consecutive games to the T-Birds and have not beaten them since Feb. 16, 2005. In the 2005 season the Conqs swept the T-Birds of a two-game series. That same season Dodge City won in Concordia, 96-72 on Jan. 12, 2005.

DC3 has had a balanced effort on the offensive side this season and are led by Haleigh Hill’s 7.7 points per game, while Makaela Ewing is averaging 7.1. Eight Conqs average between 5.0 and the 7.7 ppg, so a very balanced offense has been useful for coach Loll’s Conqs. Cloud is led by Scout Frame’s 17.3 ppg, which is second-best in the KJCCC. It’ll take a lot for the Conqs to pick up a road win in the playoffs, but if they were able to upset the T-Birds, then they would be playing on Saturday against No. 1 Seward in the quarterfinals at Hartman Arena in Park City with tip-off set for 1 p.m.

Because Dodge City High School boys will be playing in their first round of Sub-State, there will be no audio feed from Concordia. You can watch the game via Cloud here: http://cloudtbirds.com/video/Cloud_County_portal
