Scott City’s Faurot signs with South Dakota for track
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–From the moment he put on a SCHS track uniform, there was no doubt that Marshall Faurot was a natural at track. A three-year qualifier for state track in three events each year, Faurot has made a name for himself not only in Kansas, but to coaches nationwide.
On Wednesday morning, Faurot signed his letter of intent for track to South Dakota University in Vermillion. He will compete as a pole vaulter, with the possibility of becoming a decathlete.
Faurot has helped lead Scott City to two team state championships and a runner-up finish in his first three years in high school. He’s a three-time placer in the 110M High Hurdles and High Jump, a two-time placer in the Pole Vault, and a state placer in the 300M Hurdles. Last year, Faurot had one of the top vaults in the state at 16-0, and was a 6-6 high jumper for two straight seasons.
He chose South Dakota over the likes of Kansas, Michigan, Washington State and Wisconsin. His major is undecided.
Faurot’s pole vaulting coach at South Dakota will be Derek Miles, who will be in his 16th year in the USD Coyote track program. Miles has competed in three Olympics, and finished with the bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympic games. He has coached 18 consensus All-Americans, and three individual national champions, according to his bio on goyotes.com. The pole vault squad was ranked No. 1 in the country at the end of the 2018 season by the USTFCCCA.
