Round 2 between Scott City and Beloit tonight

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Two football titans will face of for the third time in the playoffs tonight at Darner Field, as Scott City plays host to Beloit in a 7 pm start. The Beavers enter with a 9-0 record, while the Trojans are 6-3.

Beloit has won three straight, and recorded their first shutout of the season with a 28-0 win at Hugoton to open the playoffs last Friday night. It was Beloit’s first playoff game since 2015, but also their first playoff win since 2013, when they won at Scott City 36-13 in the sub-state round. The Trojans led 7-0 at the break, 14-0 after three quarters before opening up the game in the fourth quarter. Tate Ahlvers scored three touchdowns, and ran for 135 yars to pace Beloit, who finished with 274 yards of offense. This year, they have average 32 points per game, while allowing 20. Also, they have recorded an average of around 320 yards of offense, while giving up 255 per game. Grant Arasmith leads them through the air, passing for over 500 yards in his last six games with five touchdowns, while Tate Ahlvers has over 800 yards this year and 14 touchdowns. Beloit has qualified for the playoffs for the 25th time in school history and holds a 37-20 record.

Scott City also won via shutout in their playoff opener. It was their fifth of the season, as they defeated Nickerson 38-0 last Friday night. The Beavers scored on their first four possessions and took a 28-0 lead at the break, and cruised to the big win. Wyatt Hayes and Brandon Winderlin had around 100 yards rushing and each scored two touchowns in the game, as the Beavers put up over 400 yards of offense. They allowed only 70 yards to Nickerson, wiht 64 coming on the ground. This year, Scott City is putting up nearly 44 points and almost 400 yards of offense, while holding teams to just under six points and under 140 yards per game. Wyatt Hayes has 25 touchdowns to lead Scott City’s ground attack, and Parker Gooden has eight touchdown tosses, while Marshall Faurot has caught six touchdowns this year. The Beavers are 49-19 all-time in the playoffs, good for a tie for 10th all time in playoff wins, and are in the playoffs for the 24th time.

On October 4, Scott City went to Beloit and picked up a 55-12 district win in a game that was moved up 24 hours, due to the possiblity of severe weather. The series is tied at two games apiece, with the last three games won by the road team. This is the second trip to Scott City for the Trojans.
