Scott City tennis third at Phillipsburg, volleyball 1-1 at Lakin
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City girls tennis and volleyball teams hit the road on Tuesday. Tennis found their way to Phillipsburg for the Phillipsburg Invitational, and came away with a third place finish, while the volleyball team went 1-1 in the Lakin Triangular.
For tennis, the Lady Beavers finished in third place. Phillispurg won the meet with 28 points, followed by Concordia with 16 and Scott City had nine, while Norton had seven points. The top spot went to No. 2 Singles player Abby LeBeau, who went 3-0 on the day to win that division. At No. 1 Doubles, Lanae Haupt & Yami Sanchez placed third, while Cynthia Gonzalez was fourth at No. 1 Singles, and the No. 2 Doubles team of Marisela Chavez/Bella Myers finished in fourth place. Up next for the varsity is the Scott City Invitational on Monday.
In Lakin, the Lady Beaver volleyball team took to the court against Goodland and Lakin. Both of their matches would go to three sets, against Goodland, Scott City won their first set 25-14, while dropping the second set 25-17. They would battle in the third, before pulling away with a 25-18 win. In a quick turnaround, they would face the Lady Broncs. Scott City came out and took control early, winning the first set 25-17. The Lady Beavers fell behind in the second set early, and were unable to overcome it, falling 25-18. In the final set, they were behind for most of it, and came to within one point on numerous occasions before falling 25-23. Scott City is 3-4 on the year, and will be at home for the first time on Thursday, hosting a triangular with Hoxie and Colby.
