A’s knock off Seattle Studs in NBC opener
Wichita, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s beat the Seattle Studs Friday night 4-3 in their NBC World Series Championship Week pool play opener.
The A’s scored their first run in the top of the second on an RBI single by Zak Felix. The Studs then tied the game in the bottom half with a solo homer by Garrett Breda.
Dodge City then scored two more runs in the third inning on RBI singles by Owen Jansen and Jordan Vujovich to stretch the lead to 3-1. Seattle got one run back in the fourth inning when A’s catcher Casey Opitz threw down to second base trying to get a runner and the ball ended up in center field, Brennen Hancock then came in to score making it 3-2.
The A’s added another run in the eighth inning on another RBI single by Jordan Vujovich to stretch the lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the ninth things got interesting. Breda led off the inning reaching on strike out passed ball. Jacob Hirsh then hit into a fielders choice that allowed Breda to reach second. Conner Savage then singled and Collin Wolf walked to load the bases with one out. The A’s then brought in Brock Knoten to pitch. Kyle Boe drove in a run on a fielders choice that put runners on the corners with two outs. Knoten then got Riker to pop out to first to end the game.
Robert Gonzalez got the win for the A’s pitching seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Knoten picked up his eighth save of the season. Vujovich led Dodge City at the plate going 3-4 with three singles and two RBI.
The A’s will play again on Sunday at 4 pm against the Santa Barbara Foresters, pregame will begin at 3:45 on 95.5 FM and swksradio.com.
