A’s blank Great Bend in shortened regular season finale
Great Bend, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s handled the Great Bend Cats 9-0 in a game that was called in the bottom of the fourth inning due to storms. The win was a strong bounce back after the A’s were handled 16-2 by Great Bend on Tuesday.
Dodge City had a huge second storing seven runs, including five consecutive RBI singles by River Fawley, Carlos Arrellano, Kyle Cullen, Isaiah Haddad and Owen Jansen. Two more runs scored when Dayton Cook reached on an error by first baseman Hunter Romero to make it 7-0.
Dodge City then added two more runs in the ninth when Jansen walked with the bases loaded and Jordan Vujovich delivered an RBI sac-fly to stretch the lead to 9-0.
Anthony Villegas(2-2) had his way on the mound for the A’s pitching 3.1 innings striking out two and allowing just one hit and no runs.
Dodge City(22-14) with their second place finish in the Jayhawk League clinches a buy and will begin play in the NBC World Series on either August 3 or 4.
