Scott City football putting in a productive summer

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Seven weeks separates the Scott City football team from their first game of the year at Hugoton on August 31. The lead up to the 2018 season has been a busy seven weeks for the Beavers.

Scott City found themselves one game short of their the ultimate goal of reaching the state championship game in 2017, and finished with an 11-1 record. The Beavers wrapped up their team camp this week, which was the final week that coaches can have contact with the players before practice starts up on August 13. Weights will continue for another couple weeks. Players went through drills and plays to familiarize them with the system.

Around 60 kids are expected to take the field this fall for Scott City, where expectations are still high. In fact, the Beavers have not had a losing season since 1986, and have made the playoffs 12 consecutive seasons.

This year’s schedule will see a significant change. Scott City will drop to Class 3A with the new classification format, and for the first time, will play in a six-team district. Teams in the district include Beloit, Colby, Concordia, Goodland and Russell. While the Beavers will play every team in the GWAC, no league championship will be up for grabs this year.
