Pitching leads A’s past Great Bend

Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Pitching and defense led the way for the Dodge City A’s Tuesday night as they beat the Great Bend Bat Cats 3-1.

Anthony Villegas(1-2) threw seven strong innings allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Mark Woinarowicz pitched the eighth inning walking one batter and striking out two. Brock Knoten picked up his fifth save striking out one and walking one in the ninth.

The A’s jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo homerun from Jordan Vujovich(2) and an RBI single from Daylan Nanny to make it 2-0. Seth Gerardy playing against his former team delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-0. The Bat Cats(7-20) only run came on an RBI single from McKay Banks in the seventh.

The A’s(13-10) are tied for third place with Derby(14-11) and are a game back of Liberal(15-10) for  second place. Dodge City will play at the first place Hays Larks(18-5) Wednesday night, pregame at 6:45 p.m. on 95.5 FM and swksradio.com.
