Derby powers past A’s
Derby, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s fell in the second game of the weekend series at Derby 12-6. Two big homeruns helped lead the way for Derby.
The A’s jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Dante Faichio reached on an error by shortstop Toren Craig, scoring Dayton Cook. The twins would tie the game in the bottom half on an RBI single by Michael Urquidi. Derby took the lead in the bottom of the second when Wes Anderson doubled and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
The A’s moved back ahead in the third following an RBI single by Faichio and an RBI sac-fly by Adam Hollar to take a 3-2 lead. The Twins exploded in the bottom half on an RBI single by Wes Anderson and a grand slam from Houston Parker to a take a 7-3 lead. Derby then got a three-run homer from Craig in the fifth to make it 10-3. Anderson added an RBI single in the sixth and Wehrle delivered an RBI single in the 7th to stretch the lead to 12-3. Dodge City moved closer in the eighth on a three-run homer from Daylan Nanny to cut the lead to 12-6.
Jesse Schmit got the win for the Twins pitching four scoreless innings in relief. Trevor Munsch(1-1) took the loss for the A’s pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six earned runs and nine runs total.
Anderson went 3-5 for Derby with two singles, a double and two RBI. Parker was 2-5 with a grand slam and single.
The loss drops the A’s(11-10) to fourth place in league standings a half game back of the Twins(12-10). Dodge City plays again at Derby on Sunday night pregame coverage at 6:45 p.m. on 95.5 FM and swksradio.com.
