A’s drop series opener at Haysville
Haysville, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City A’s got off to hot start Friday before faltering at Haysville. The A’s jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Aviators scored 11 unanswered runs leading to a 12-8 win.
Jordan Vujovich got the A’s off to a hot start with an RBI double in the first inning. Sean Noel delivered an RBI single in the second followed by a two-run triple by Vujovich and an RBI single by Conner Van Cleave to make it 5-0 after two innings.
The Aviators(1-3) came alive in the third inning Shea Gutierrez delivered an RBI single and two runs would score on errors to make it a 5-3 game. In the fourth inning Haysville added another run on a passed ball to make it 5-4. They added four more runs in the fifth inning off five straight hits including an RBI triple by Carter Cross and an RBI double by Luke Jaketta to take an 8-5 lead. The Aviators would add three more runs in the sixth inning including RBI singles by Cross and Byron Smith, making the score 11-5.
The A’s(1-1) cut into the deficit in the seventh inning scoring three runs on a two RBI double by Conner Van Cleave and an RBI single by Dante Faichio to make it 11-8. The Aviators added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Darian Williams to make the score 12-8. Kyle John shut down Dodge City in the final two innings at the plate, striking out four of seven batters faced.
Andres Hackman(1-0) got the win for Haysville, going 6.1 innings surrendering four earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Nolan McCarthy(0-1) got the loss for the A’s allowing five earned runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.
Carter Cross helped lead the Aviators at the plate going 2-3 with a triple, single and two RBI. Darian Williams went 2-4 with two singles and two RBI. For Dodge City Jordan Vujovich was 2-4 with a double, triple and three RBI. Conner Van Cleave went 2-4 with a double, single and three RBI.
