Cowley ends Broncbusters season

Arkansas City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College baseball team was eliminated from the Region 6 tournament on Saturday falling to Cowley 10-3 to sweep the best of three opening round series.

The Tigers offense got rolling early in the bottom of the first inning Alex Peterson had a two RBI single followed by a Dalton Dinkel RBI fielders choice to make it 3-0. The Broncbusters responded in the second inning, after Chris Lara and RJ Bourget were put on with a walk and hit by pitch Clint Allen reached on an error by shortstop Kevin Rolon that brought in two runs making it 3-2.

In the bottom of the third with two outs Cowley’s Grady Davenport drew then was brought in to score on a double by Dinkel making it 4-2. In the top of the fifth GCCC pulled made it 4-3 on an RBI groundout by Russell Cruz.

In the bottom of the sixth the Tigers broke it open. Dinkel led off the inning with a triple and was brought in to score on a sac fly by Rolon. Cowley then loaded the bases and Devin Beard delivered a two-run single followed by a Peterson RBI sac-fly making it 8-3.

The Tigers(42-9, 34-4) would add two more runs in the seventh with an RBI triple by Cross Factor and an RBI sac-fly by Maison Sites stretching the lead to 10-3.

Ryan Westerhoff(5-0) got the win Cowley pitching five innings he struck out five and allowed two runs on three hits. JK Hadlock, Brannon Jordan and Ryan Hansen pitched the last four innings and surrendered just one run and two hits. Eric Heiman(5-3) got the loss for GCCC pitching just two innings and allowing three runs on three hits.

Alex Peterson led the way at the plate for the Tigers going 2-4 with a single, triple and three RBI. Dalton Dinkel went 3-5 with two doubles, a triple and an RBI. For the Broncbusters Clint Allen was 1-3 with a single and two RBI.

GCCC finishes the season at 26-29 and 12-22 in conference play.
