GCCC falls in Region 6 opener to Cowley
Arkansas City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City Community College baseball team dropped the opening game of the Region 6 tournament opening round best of three series to Cowley 2-0.
The pitchers shined in a game that took just an hour and 45 minutes to play. Cole Larsen(5-0) was dominant for the Tigers pitching a complete game shutout striking out six and allowing just two hits. Kendrick Catron(0-2) started for GCCC and pitched well going 4.2 innings and giving up two runs on three hits. Austin Stone pitched the final 3 innings and gave up just two hits.
The game was scoreless for 4 1/2 innings until Cowley got something going in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs a Kevin Rolon single was followed by a Cross Factor RBI triple to make it 1-0. Parker Dunn dropped in a RBI single in shallow left field to make it 2-0. GCCC coach Chris Finnegan said post game he thought the Dunn single should have been caught.
Clint Allen led the way for the Broncbusters at the plate going 2-4 with a pair of singles.
GCCC will play again Saturday at Cowley with their season on the line. A win would force a game three on Sunday. Saturday’s game begins at 2 p.m. with the pregame beginning at 1:45 p.m. on ESPN 99.9 and Westernkansasnews.com
