Colorado man sentenced to life in prison for Scott City rape

SCOTT CITY – (April 26, 2018) – A Colorado man was sentenced today to life in prison after being convicted of multiple Jessica’s Law charges for sex crimes against a person younger than 14 years of age, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt said.

Jose Armando Contreras, 40, of Pueblo West, Colo., was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for at least 25 years. Last month, a Scott County jury found Contreras guilty of two counts of rape, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of aggravated intimidation of a victim. The rape and aggravated criminal sodomy charges fall under Jessica’s Law because the victim was under 14 years of age. Judge Wendel W. Wurst presided over the sentencing in Scott County District Court.

The crimes were committed between March 2012 and February 2013.The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the Scott City Police Department. Assistant Attorney General Lyndzie Carter of Schmidt’s office prosecuted the case.
