Dart no-hitter helps Lady Buffs sweep Hays
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Garden City High School softball team swept a doubleheader with Hays Tuesday afternoon 8-1 and 5-1.
Game One
Hailey Dart(5-3) stole the show in game one with a no-hitter and 14 strikeouts on the mound. Dart walked three batters, one reached on a fielders and another reached on an error. She also had a big day at the plate going 3-4 with two singles, a double, two runs and an RBI.
Taylor Terpstra went 2-4 for Garden City(9-3, 4-0) with two singles and two RBI. Yaz Vargas went 2-4 with an RBI and Erykah Foster was 1-4 with an RBI. Kaitlyn Brown(3-5) went the distance for Hays on the mound giving up 11 hits, eight runs and striking out five.
Game Two
The Lady Buffs would scratch a run in each of the first three innings to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Hays would score a run in the fourth to cut it to 3-1, after the run scored with two outs and runners on second and third Garden City coach Trina Moquett replaced Yaz Vargas(4-0) on the mound with Hailey Dart, who would strike out Calista Isbell to end the inning. Dart would get the save, as she held the Lady Indians scoreless for the final 3.1 innings.
Vargas also led the way at the plate for the Lady Buffs going 3-4 with a triple, two singles and three runs. Lauren Koster and Reigan Crawford both added RBI singles.
Garden City has now won eight in a row since starting the season 1-3. The Lady Buffs are back in action Thursday at Great Bend.
