Garden City Police arrest man on felony warrants following pursuit
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Friday at 5:15 p.m. Officers of the Garden City Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a brown 1998 Dodge Durango in the 2400 block of East Kansas Ave for multiple traffic violations.
When Officers attempted to stop the suspect, he refused to stop, and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled north through Garden City onto the Highway 50/83 bypass. At one point before reaching the bypass, the suspect vehicle did a U-turn and struck the front of a police vehicle.
Once the suspect reached the Bypass the Finney County Sheriff’s Office took over as primary for the pursuit. The suspect went south on the Bypass until Jennie Barker Rd, once on Jennie Barker Rd the suspect vehicle veered off the road into a field and continued to drive through the field until it struck an irrigation ditch disabling the vehicle.
When Officers approached the suspect vehicle, they were able to identify the driver as a person who was wanted on felony warrants for Kidnapping, Aggravated Battery, Robbery, Domestic Battery, Computer Crimes, Theft (F), and Criminal Use of a Financial Card.
The suspect was suffering from injuries related to the crash and was transported to St Catherine Hospital by Finney County EMS. He was then transported to a Wichita Hospital for further treatment.
The suspect could face the additional charges of:
Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer
Aggravated Assault
Reckless Driving
Fleeing and Eluding
Failing to drive in proper lane of traffic
Driving on lawns, yards, and crops
Leaving the scene of an accident
Failure to give information at an accident
Failure to stop at a posted stop sign
Failure to give proper notice of intent to turn
Speeding
Transportation of an Open Container of Alcohol
Possession of drug paraphernalia.
The identity of the suspect will not be released at this time pending his arrest and or charges being filed.
