Derby girls blast Dodge City in Sub-State Championship
Derby, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Derby girls jumped all over Dodge City Friday night from the jump and never looked back, winning 71-17. The Lady Panthers led 26-2 at the end of the first quarter and 51-6 at halftime. Derby has won 22 games in a row as they head to the State Tournament
Derby shot the ball extremely well going 29-51 for 57 percent and 11-22 from three point range. Dodge City struggled shooting just 6-41 for 15 percent. Turnovers did the Lady Demons in early with 27 leading to 35 Derby points.
Tor’e Alford led Derby with 17 points shooting 6-6 and 5-5 from three. Kennedy Brown had 10 points 11 rebounds and 3 blocks and Sydney Nilles stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points 9 assists 6 rebounds and 5 steals. Chidera Okoro led Dodge City with 6 points.
Dodge City finishes the season with a record of 11-11. After the game Head Coach Kelly Snodgrass said she was proud of the team.
“They exceeded my expectations and they fought hard for me all year, so I’m very proud of this team. We’re going to miss our two seniors Brianna and Lexi, but we’re excited about the future we have a lot coming back,” said Snodgrass.
