Dodge City girls fall to Kapaun in NIT

Newton, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City High School girls basketball team fell to Kapaun Mt.Carmel in the second day of the Newton Invitational Tournament 52-45.

The Lady Red Demons trailed 23-20 at halftime then Kapaun had a big third quarter to pull away. The Lady Crusaders outscored Dodge City 19-12 in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 42-32. The Lady Red Demons continued to battle in the fourth quarter cutting the deficit to 51-45, before Kapaun made a free throw with 14 seconds left to put it away.

Dodge City(6-5, 1-1) turned the ball over 28 times leading to 25 Kapaun points. The Lady Crusaders also blocked 10 shots and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds. Kapaun shot 21-50 for 42 percent from the field, while the Lady Red Demons shot just 14-37 for 38 percent.

Anna Roulston led the way for Kapaun(4-9) with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Roulston also blocked 5 shots and had 4 steals.

Chiedera Okoro played well for Dodge City with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Madison Armstrong had 10 points and Kisa Unruh had 9 points. In her first start of the season Caroline Williams had 5 points and 7 rebounds.

The Dodge City girls will play in the seventh place game of the NIT Saturday at 1 p.m. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on Z-98 and westernkansasnews.com.
