St. Catherine’s Hospital bringing breastfeeding services to Ulysses

Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Having a new baby can be challenging! We at Centura Health want to support you as you’re getting to know the newest member of your family. St. Catherine Hospital is excited to bring breastfeeding services to sister community, Ulysses. Pregnant and breastfeeding parents in Grant County and surrounding areas will now have professional lactation support from Janet Colson, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and support staff.

The Centura Health partnership with Bob Wilson facilitates will expand breastfeeding support to Ulysses and help build a healthier, stronger community. Transportation can be daunting to new moms and living in rural, southwest Kansas, it is can be a concern. Complete, whole person care to families, when and where they need it, is part of the Centura Health mission.

Future plans to roll out this new service include a Meet and Greet to determine the breastfeeding service needs of the community. This can take a variety of forms such as a weekly breastfeeding clinic, private consultations, infant feeding, breast pump support and other services, as well as an expansion of Garden City’s Breastfeeding Friends Group (BFF) for mom to mom support. A continued working relationship with the Grant County Public Health Department (WIC) through the Frontier Breastfeeding Coalition will also play a vital role in this new service. The first Meet and Greet will be held on Thursday, December 14th at 10 am in the lobby of Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital. Refreshments will be served and everyone is encouraged to attend.
