Lady Beaver volleyball sweeps Cimarron quadrangular; girls golf season ends at Regionals
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team took the courts on Tuesday in Cimarron, and picked up three wins, all in sweeps. It was a tough go for two SCHS girls golfers, who competed in the Class 3-2-1A Regional meet at Stanton County. The meet was moved from Monday to Tuesday.
Scott City took on Wichita County, Syracuse and Cimarron on Tuesday. In the process, they extended their win streak to six, matching a season high. Their first match was against the Lady Indians, whom they defeated in September. This one would be a little closer, as the Lady Beavers took a 25-13, 25-13 win. Lyndi Rumford and Emily Smith each notched six kills in the match, while smith added five service aces and Macie Price had three aces.
In their second match, it was also another foe they took care of earlier in the season in Syracuse. Scott City didn’t let up either, sweeping the Lady Bulldogs 25-11, 25-13. Emily Smith and Jalynn Habiger each had eight kills. Macie Price had five service aces and Habiger added 23 assists.
Their final match was against potential sub-state opponent in Cimarron. The first set would be the closest margin of victory the Lady Beavers would win by at 25-21, as they dominated the second set with a 25-11 win. Emily Smith notched 11 of the teams 27 kills, while Lyndi Rumford added seven kills. Jalynn Habiger had 24 assists in the win.
After Tuesday, Scott City is 20-9 on the year, and will be competing at the GWAC Tournament on Saturday in Goodland.
As for the Scott City golf team, their season came to an end on Tuesday at the Class 3-2-1A Regional at Prairie Pines Golf Course in Johnson, hosted by Stanton County. Gabby Martinez shot a 128 and came in 31st, while Paige Prewitt finished 33rd with a score of 142. Stanton County stunned Syracuse by winning the regional. The Lady Trojans shot a 370, while Syracuse was second with a 386, and Goodland was the final qualifying team, shooting a round of 393.
