Scott City volleyball places third at Oakley
Scott City, Kan. (westenrkansasnews.com)–Playing in their first Saturday tournament of the year, the Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team took to the court on Saturday at the Oakley Invitational, and took home a third place finish and a 3-2 record on the day.
In pool play, the Lady Beavers went 2-1, winning their first match against Syracuse 25-11, 25-12. Emily Smith had six kills in the match and Jalynn Habiger had three service aces. A quick turnaround saw Scott City drop their match to Colby in straight sets 25-16, 25-18 in their second meeting of the season. Smith led the way with seven kills and Emily Weathers added four. After a little bit of a break, it was Triplains/Brewster on the slate. Scott City would advance out of pool play with a 25-13, 25-20 victory. It was Smith leading the way with 10 kills and Weathers with six of the teams 23 kills. Habiger had 22 assists in the win.
Moving over to the high school from the Impact Center would prove to be a tough one for the Lady Beavers, taking on the top team in Class 1A, DII in Wheatland/Grinnell. They would push the Thunderhawks to three sets, dropping the first set 26-24, winning the second set 25-22, before dropping the third set 25-16. Lyndi Rumford helped lead the attack with eight kills. Emily Smith also had eight kills. Six service errors proved to be costly. With a trip back to the Impact Center for the third place match, Scott City ended the day on a high note, sweeping Quinter in straight sets 25-17, 25-13. Rumford led the way with six kills and Macie Price added three service aces.
After Saturday, Scott City is 11-5 on the year, and will play in a triangular on Tuesday against Holcomb and Southwestern Heights, host a GWAC quad on Thursday, facing Colby, Goodland and Holcomb, and will host the Scott City Invitational on Saturday.
