Scott City Baseball brings out the brooms against Ulysses

Coming off a couple of tough losses Friday in Colby, Scott City turned the page on a new month, and took care of league rival Ulysses with a pair of 10-run wins 13-3 and 11-1 in games that ended in the fifth inning.

Scott City started off with a two-out unearned run in the first inning, and led 1-0 after the opening inning. After a scoreless second, the Beaver got things brewing in the third, with three additional runs and led 4-0. Their runs would match what inning they were in the rest of the way. They would score four runs on four hits in the fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run blast by Drew Kite, his third round-tripper of the season, that extended the Beaver lead to 8-0. Ulysses would put up a fight in the fifth frame, as they rallied with three of their own to pull to within five runs at 8-3. Scott City would end the game with five runs, as Jeremy Clinton scored Tyler Hess from third to win 13-3. The Beavers ended up with 10 hits in the game. Brett O’Neil, Matt Zilla and Hess had two hits each. Kite drove in three runs, and pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on five hits, walking one batter and striking out five.

The Beavers would pick up from where they left off in game two, and started off in a big way. When it was all said and done, Scott City sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring eight runs on seven hits and led 8-0 after a complete inning. That would remain the score in the second inning. Ulysses plated their lone run in the third to make it 8-1. Going into the bottom of the fifth, Scott City would end the game, starting off with three base hits. After scoring the first two runs and having the bases loaded with one out, Jeremy Clinton would end the second game of the day as well, with a sacrifice fly into left field, scoring Matt Zilla from third to give the Beavers the sweep of the Tigers. Tyler Hess went the distance, giving up one run on three hits, striking out five batters and issued one free pass. He also retired the final seven batters faced. Austin Habiger collected three hits, and Brett O’Neil, Zilla, and Brett Meyer had two hits each for Scott City, who ended up with 11 hits.

After the day, Scott City improved to 10-7 on the season, and Ulysses dropped to 5-9. The Beavers wrap up the regular season Friday at home against Hugoton, while the Tigers visit Elkhart Thursday.
