Scott City volleyball takes Hoxie triangular
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver volleyball team stayed as hot as the temperatures on Thursday at the Hoxie triangular, taking the Lady Indians in three sets to start off the day 20-25, 25-23 and 25-8. In a quick turnaround, Scott City took down GWAC foe Colby 25-19, 25-18.
In their first match of the day against Hoxie, the Lady Beavers were in a battle in the first set, before falling 25-20. After that, Scott City took control for the most part. The Lady Beavers would build up a lead of 23-17, only to see the Lady Indians rally late, before Scott City won 25-23. In the third set, it was all Lady Beavers, opening up a commanding 19-3 third set lead, and coasted to the 25-8 win to take the match over the No. 4 team in Class 2A, according to the Kansas Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.
Scott City would turn around and take on Colby, who earlier in the season knocked off defending GWAC champion Holcomb. The first see Scott City build up an early seven-point lead. Colby rallied, but the Lady Beavers rallied to take the first set 25-19. In the second set, the Lady Eagles would take a 12-10 lead, only to see Scott City fire back up and take the match over, closing the match on a 15-6 run to win 15-18 and pick up their second win of the day.
Colby would defeat Hoxie in three sets 22-25, 25-14 and 25-23.
After Thursday, Scott City went 5-0 this week and have improved to 7-1 on the season. They will resume play next Thursday with a dual at LaCrosse.
