Red Demons handle Southeast
Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Dodge City football cruised to a 60-26 win over Wichita Southeast Friday night in their home opener.
The Red Demons were led by Dawson Williams, who moved from quarterback to wide receiver this week. Williams had four total touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving. Williams had 137 yards of total offense.
Sophomore QB Beau Foster shined as well. Foster was 13-23 for 160 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He ran 19 times for 71 yards and a touchdown.
Other key contributors for the Red Demons included Tade Pike, who had seven carries for 52 yards and a touchdown. De’Jon Delgado had three catches for 46 yards and a touchdown. Carlos Fernandez returned a punt blocked by Sam Mead 15 yards for a touchdown.
The Dodge City(1-1) defense shined in the first holding the Southeast offense scoreless and to just 20 yards. The Red Demon offense had 423 total yards of offense, 251 rushing and 172 passing. The defense surrendered 261 yards total.
Ollie McGee stood out for Southeast(0-2) scoring all four touchdowns: two receiving, one rushing and one interception returned for a touchdown.
The game came to a halt with 5:20 to play when sophomore John Johnson went down after a helmet to helmet collision. Johnson was carted off and taken by an ambulance to the hospital. Johnson was conscious and did have movement in all his extremities.
Next week the Red Demons are back in action at Wichita Heights at 7 pm. The Falcons are 0-2 so far this season after losses to Olathe North 39-25 and Northwest 37-20. Heights starting backfield has been suspended for the first two games.
