DC3 Football Gearing Up for Start of the Season
Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) Dodge City Community College Football will start their season in eight days. Coach Gary Thomas has called the process of getting ready for the season a day to day process.
Coach Thomas noted that he was glad the season was eight days away instead of two days away noting that with classes starting it presents challenges with concentration for the players.
One position still up for grabs is the backup quarterback position. Thomas stated that he thinks all three bring good things to the team, but no one has put their stamp on that position yet.
The defense is another question mark. The Conqs only bring back one starter from last year. Thomas thinks the line will be formidable and that the corners are both talented, but has questions currently about the linebackers and safeties.
The Conqs will start the season with Highland at home on Thursday Aug. 24. DC3 lost to Highland last year 26-16. Coach Thomas feels that’s a game they could have won, but he touted how good he thinks Highland will be this year.
Thomas noted that Highland has at least five starters back on defense. On offense they have four offensive linemen back along with two running backs and a really talented receiver.
The biggest concern is nerves for the Conqs. Thomas wonders how they’ll perform when the lights come on and decisions have to be made quicker. DC3 will find out in eight days.
