KBI Report: Violent and Property Crimes Rose in 2016
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Kansas Bureau of Investigation released their 2016 annual crime report on Thursday. The report shows that violent crime is up 4.2 percent over last year. Murders are up 12.1 percent from last year.
There were 148 murders in Kansas in 2016 up 16 from the 132 in 2015. Property crimes are also on the rise with a 3.1 percent increase over 2015. The total crime index is still below the 10-year average.
The rise in crime was also reflected in Finney and Ford Counties. Violent crimes in Finney County were up .5 percent with 179 violent crimes in 2016 compared to 160 2015. Property crimes rose 1.4 percent in Finney County with 997 in 2016 compared to 953 in 2015.
Ford County saw a .3 percent rise in violent crime with 115 crimes, there were 105 in 2015. Property crimes jumped 4.1 percent at 956, 130 more than 2015 at 826.
