GC Police Make Arrest in 32 Year Old Cold Case
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) On June 22 Garden City Police made an arrest in the murder of Ignacio Vasquez, 37, who was stabbed on August 27, 1983 outside of a former club named “The Gambler”.
In February 2017 new information was obtained and Detectives followed up this information. The information led Detectives to identify Frank Rosas, 62, as a suspect in the murder. Information was corroborated, and on June 22, 2017, a warrant was issued for his arrest; he was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on June 22, 2017, at 6:00 p.m. at his residence for 2nd degree murder.
During the initial investigation, witnesses reported a fight had occurred in the parking lot of the club. Additional people were also stabbed or cut during the fight. Witnesses reported that Octaviano “Toby” Rosas was involved in the murder of Vasquez. In 1984 a witness identified Toby as the person who stabbed Vasquez. Toby was arrested and charged in Finney County District Court. On October 24, 1984, the charges against Toby were dismissed due to lack of cooperation from the witness to testify at the preliminary hearing.
