Jarmer to the rescue; Buffs soccer downs Hays

Garden City, KS-The Buffaloes have had plenty of close matches in 2017-some have gone their way and some have not. But on Monday night at home, it was a freshman that put Garden City on top for good.

Abigail Jarmer’s goal in the 31st minute completely erased an early 1-0 hole as Garden City topped Hays 2-1.

“I’ve had several opportunities to make a play like that,” Jarmer explained. “I knew that I needed to complete that cross.”

But it was a rather inauspicious hole that the Buffaloes dug before Jarmer’s first-half dramatics.

Tressa Becker got Hays on the board with an unassisted goal three minutes into the match, giving the Indians 1-0.

Goretti Mendez got the equalizer nine minutes later, weaving her way through traffic before finding the back of the net.

Garden City improved to 3-1 in the Western Athletic Conference and 5-5 overall.
