Scott City boys and girls teams sweep 81st Scott City Relays titles

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Tuesday’s 81st Annual Scott City Relays saw something different from years past. This year, 19 teams that participated were all in one division. Yes, last year’s meet had the same situation, but no where near the teams after the postponement. In the end of the day, there were great individual and team performances on what has to be the warmest day of the track season. Scott City’s boys repeated as team champion and the Scott City girls also shined, taking the top spot in the team standings.

Individually, there were some stellar performances. Let’s start with the three-event winners. Scott City sophomore Marshall Faurot accumulated 38 points individually, sweeping the 110M High Hurdles and 300M Intermediate Hurdles, and won the Pole Vault on a tiebreaker. He was second in the high jump. Also winning three events from Scott City was Dulce Ayala. She won the 800M run individually, and was on the 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams that took the top spot. Hugoton’s Mitchell Hamlin was also a three-event winner, winning the 4ooM Dash individually, and was the anchor on the winning 4×100 and 4×100 relays.

As for area girl individuals winning two gold medals, Lakin’s Kaylee Line repeated in the 100M High Hurdles, and won the High Jump, Dighton’s Jordan Speer took home the Shot Put and Javelin, and was third in the discus, Sublette’s Laiten Greeson was the champion in the 100 and 200M Dashes, and Rebecca Avelar won the 1600 and 3200M Runs. For the boys individual double gold medal winners, Scott City’s Jack Thomas took the 3200M Run and was on the winning 4x800M Relay team, and finished second in the 1600M Run, and Stanton County’s Caleb Carrasco took home the 800M and 1600M Runs.
