Howard L. Gross, 85, died April 9, 2017 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on December 7, 1931 at Minneola the son of Vern and Zena (Gyer) Gross.

Mr. Gross worked as a Insurance Agent for over thirty years before starting Howie’s Chicken Restaurant, which he ran for many years. He also worked for WalMart later in life. Mr. Gross loved reading about World War II history as well as working in his shop on many woodworking projects. He enjoyed going and watching his grandchildren compete in many sporting events. He married Wanda Nelson on May 24, 1957 in Minneola, she preceded him in death on March 20, 1998. He later married Sharlene Schmidt on October 31, 1998 in Branson, Missouri, she survives Mr. Gross.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, Dodge City Optimist Club and former Boy Scout Leader.

He is survived by his wife Sharlene of the home; two sons Tim Gross and wife Barbara of Hershey, PA; Todd Gross and wife Chris of Dodge City; five step daughters Charmane, Michelle, Tammy, Renee, Kelli, as well as twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mr. Gross is also survived by three brothers Bill Gross of Wheat Ridge, Colorado; Everett Gross of Lakewood, Colorado and Lloyd Gross of St. John, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bud and two sisters Alice and Ruth.

Memorial service will be held at Church of Christ in Dodge City on Saturday April 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Mr. Gary Bennett presiding. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to the Maude Carpenter Children’s Home in care of the funeral home.
