DCPD Reiterates Immigration Enforcement Not a Local Issue, Initiated by Feds
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Several weeks back Immigration and Customs Enforcement did make a series of arrests in towns throughout Southwest Kansas for immigrants wanted on repeated offenses or other crimes. Dodge City Police Chief Drew Francis thinks this won’t be the only operation from federal authorities.
DCPD would offer assistance in those operations. Still immigrants may direct their anger at local police and that is not right.
Dodge City Police want to reiterate they can not initiate arrests for immigration violations. Despite this explanation and the efforts to articulate by local law enforcement the concern from Chief Francis is that a typical traffic stop could turn into something much bigger because of an unwarranted fear.
Even if illegal, should police attempt to pull you over follow the directions for your safety and the safety of others.
