D. June Menzie
D. June Menzie, 81, died March 28, 2017 at Satanta District Hospital. She was born on June 18, 1935 in Wichita, the daughter of Ray and Elva (Hickey) Berry.
June moved to Sublette with her family when she was in the third grade. During her seventh grade year, the family moved to Copeland. June graduated from Copeland High School in 1953. After graduation, June attended Fort Hays State University for one year before returning home. On February 13, 1955, June was united in marriage to John Menzie. They celebrated 62 years of marriage. After their marriage, they lived in Missouri while John was in the military. When he was discharged, they moved to Copeland and then in 1962 moved to Sublette. June owned JR’s Gallery in Sublette for 10 years. She was also a secretary at Hoskinson Implement in Sublette. June is remembered by many as a piano teacher, a job which she had for many years. After their retirement in 1997, they moved to Shell Knob, Missouri. June spent many Friday nights at the Clio Church near Shell Knob playing music with other area musicians. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting as well as spending time with her family.
June is survived by her husband John of Sublette; one son Brad Menzie and wife Joan of Sublette; son-in-law, Mark Grimes of El Dorado; grandchildren, Brennen Menzie of Kansas City, Bradon Menzie and Ian Menzie both of Sublette, Katlyn Grimes (Jeremy Robinson) of Newton; Kacie Galaviz (Omar) of Maize; great grandchildren, Kolten and Jaylee June Robinson; brother, Bill Berry and wife Paula of Shell Knob; and sister, Norma Jean Meier of Garden City. She is preceded in death by her parents and two daughters, Jennifer Menzie and Robin Grimes.
Funeral service will be held at Copeland United Methodist Church on Friday March 31, 2017 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Javier Martinez presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Thursday March 30, 2017 from noon to 8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Copeland Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
