Carl W. Love
Carl W. Love, 93, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Minneola Nursing Home.
He was born December 21, 1923 in Billings, Montana. He was the youngest child of Sylvester Henry and Lola Belle (Morris) Love. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Guam. After the military he attended barber school. He then served for many years as a Southern Baptist pastor throughout Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma. After leaving the pastorate, he owned and operated Love’s Barber Shop in Dodge City for many years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the VFW and enjoyed travelling, particularly to Wyoming and Montana. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and for many years bred German short hair pointers in Dodge City.
On December 25, 1943 he married Norma Lee Keeler in St. John, Kansas. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1983.
On July 5, 1990 he married Doris Jean Pike in Buffalo, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on October 20, 2013.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers: Robert, Earl, Carl Searl, Leslie Lyle, Ted Chester, Leroy, Harold, Leonard, Ernest and Robert Quincey, and 3 sisters : Grace Cristina Caroline, Etta May and Isabel Flossie.
Survivors include : his son, Louis Wayne Love and wife Claudia Irene, Liberal; his daughter, Marsha Voelker and husband Dennis, Great Bend; 2 step-sons, Sterling Pike and wife Greta, Minneola and Jobey Robert Pike and wife Debbie, Ovilla, Texas; 6 grandchildren, William Randolph Love and wife Laurie, Lawrence; April Neuman and husband Larry, Liberal; LaManda Sue Voelker, Dodge City; Charles Voelker, Parsons; Rick Voelker, Minneapolis; and Clifford Voelker, Great Bend; 6 step-grandchildren, April Pike, Chris Pike, Robyn Pike, Brian Pike, Brad Pike and Kristen Pike; 10 great-grandchildren, Ryan Love, Garden City; Randolph Love, Aurora, Colorado; Elizabeth Artis, Lawrence; Amanda Love, Baldwin City; Rollin Love, Lawrence; Jeremiah Neuman and wife Tara, Liberal; Cherish Neuman, Liberal; Andrew Neuman, Liberal; Emily Neuman, Liberal and Jonathan Neuman, Liberal; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; Bradley Love, Denver, Colorado; Morgan Love, Hartsel, Colorado; Weston Love, Garden City and Ronin Artis, Lawrence.
Private family services will be held at a later date. There will be no public viewing. Cremation has taken place.
