Phil graduated from Hutchinson High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Sgt with the 1st Calvary Division in Viet Nam. After his discharge he returned to Hutchinson and worked for Borton Elevator Construction Company. He joined the National Guard and moved to Garden City where he was a Clerk and Recruiter for the Garden City National Guard Unit. After his retirement from the military he was a Cook at the National Guard Unit and then worked on the B shift at Tyson as a cook, vending operator & cash register operator. Phil enjoyed his yard work and volunteer veteran’s activities such as Military funerals and for 29 years led the Garden City Veteran’s Day school program and the Memorial Day Service. He was preceded in death by his Mother and 1 Brother- Richard Babcock.
