Court’s Decision Pleased Cunningham; Now Pressure Shifts to Legislature

Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Last week the State Supreme Court sided with Dodge City and three other school districts who brought suit claiming the state legislature was not adequately funding education. Now with work on a new funding formula underway, Superintendent Alan Cunningham says just because they scored a legal victory does not mean the battle is over.

And even though schools would like to know how much they are getting, that is not for the courts to tell the legislature.

Cunningham believes the court’s duty is to make sure the foundation to fund education is sound. We will have more on Tuesday.
