Demons Fall to Hays on Senior Night
Dodge City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) The hope was that Senior Night would be just the thing to motivate the Dodge City High School Basketball teams to a pair of wins over rival Hays, but in the end both teams fell just short in a pair of losses 42-38 in the girls game and 48-39 in the boys
Girls Highlights First/Second Half
The Demon girls came into Tuesday night’s game riding high on a two game winning streak, but they could not stop the hot shooting freshman Brooke Denning. Denning connected on three triples including the tiebreaking three with less than two minutes left to give Hays the clean sweep of the three games over Dodge this year.
Tia Bradshaw led the way with 20 points for the Demons, but no one else had more than five. Kaylyn Maple led the way with six rebounds in the loss.
Savannah Schneider poured in two threes for Hays in finishing with 11. The Indians withstood a 10-3 run from the Demons to begin the game in going on a 13-0 run themselves over a seven minute span of the first half and hit 48% of their shots to Dodge City’s 29 percent.

Trailing by one entering into the fourth quarter thanks to Shane Berens three for Hays, Berens added another three early in the fourth sparking a 19-11 run in the final quarter for a nine point win.
Hunter Heath was plagued with foul trouble throughout the night. He led Dodge in scoring with nine points and six rebounds. Chris Baker started to pick it up a little after his recent struggles with 8 points on 2-7 shooting from behind the arc.
Dodge could not handle the ball well in turning the ball over 23 times to Hays’ 14. Berens led the Indians with 12 points and Claiborne Kyles followed with 11.
The loss means Dodge won only one true home game this year when they beat Great Bend 49-40 to begin the season.
