Gym at DPAC getting a major face lift

Garden City, KS-The gym inside the Perryman Athletic Complex is getting a massive facelift; all thanks to Conestoga.

During halftime of Wednesday night’s basketball games vs. Pratt, athletic director John Green made the announcement that the energy tycoon was donating money to the college for a new gym floor and new bleachers on the north side.

“This is only the beginning,” Green said. “This is a really exciting time, and Conestoga has big plans.”

CEO Tom Willis was there to make the presentation.

“Garden City is one of the premier colleges across the state,” he said. “We’ve been very impressed with the college, and we are fully invested in the community.”

The plan calls for a bran-new gym floor, which will be named after Ron Schwartz, a former Board of Trustees member who passed away last year and an improvement to the stands on the north side.

“We are excited to get the ball rolling,” Green added. “It’s an exciting time to be a Buster.”

The total cost of the project has not been released, but construction is expected to begin following graduation in May. It is scheduled to be completed before volleyball begins the 2017 season in August.

The athletic complex will still be named after Dennis Perryman, former Garden City Community College athletic director.
