Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Part of Governor Brownback’s solution to fill a 350-million dollar budget shortfall this year is to take a one time lump sum from the tobacco companies. DeAnna Berry Director of the Russell Child Development Center believes making this move could have a significant impact by pillaging the Child Initiative Fund one of their main sources of revenue.
Berry says in operating with a 1.9 million dollar budget they already have cut to the bone. Taking the lump sum would be selling off this annual revenue stream for pennies on the dollar.
