Jessie Edith Salem, 95, died December 2, 2016 at the Claremore Nursing Home in Claremore, Oklahoma . She was born on October 24, 1921 in Decatur, Arkansas the daughter of Jesse Arno and Mabel (Dale) Sprott.

Edith spent her childhood in Ford and attended elementary school there. On September 22, 1937, she was united in marriage to Emmett Salem in Dodge City. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1996. After their marriage, they lived in Cimarron, Tribune, and Hudson before settling in Ingalls on the farm south of town in 1949. In 1969, they sold the farm and moved into town. Edith worked for Cimarron Insurance for many years. She loved to crochet, oil paint, read, and sing. 

She was a member of the Ingalls Community Church.

Edith is survived by three sons, Jim Salem and wife Marvel of Cimarron, Dennis Salem and wife Marlene of Spearville, and Alex Salem and wife Brenda of Hanston; three daughters, Dayla Koehn and husband Larry of Tulsa, Sharon Hayes of Guymon, and Tanya Bieber of Peck; one brother, Glen Sprott of London, England; 18 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Emmett, she is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters; one grandson Kevin Hayes; one granddaughter, Dalainya Dauster; and two great grandsons, Brennon Salem and Rodney Diehl.

Funeral service will be held at Ingalls Community Church on Wednesday December 7, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Tom Harmer presiding. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City.
