Our Mother, Grandmother, and Sister, Leona (Eck) Nusz, was born to Joseph and Mary (Schmidt) Eck on December 13, 1922 in Durham. She quietly slipped away November 5, 2016 at Bethel Home in Montezuma, reaching the age of 93 years.

She grew up at Hickok and later at Ringwood, Oklahoma. Mother married Leo Nusz on March 27, 1940 in Enid, Oklahoma. They shared many joys and sorrows for 67 years. To this union were born 10 children. Dad passed away nine years ago leaving her very lonely. She spent the last four years in Bethel Home which she enjoyed.

After Mother felt the call of the Lord to repentance, she was baptized on August 16, 1942 by Minister George Nichols at Fairview, Oklahoma. She was faithful to her vows until death.

Folks lived at different places in Oklahoma until August of 1949 when they moved to Montezuma.

Mother was a real homemaker and an excellent cook. She dedicated herself to her husband and children which was very important to her. Dad and Mother were always concerned about their children’s salvation, praying for them every day. Mother was busy all the time with her hands; crocheting, making rugs and quilts, canning, and working with Dad. She was very generous and giving. She gave many quilts to her children and others.

We who cherish her memory are four sons, Larry of Garden City, David and wife Rosie of Olathe, Colorado, Leslie of Galena, Missouri, and Delbert and wife Lorraine of Ingalls; four daughters, Patricia Jantzen and husband Nelson of Montezuma, Lavonna Koehn and husband Jerry of Comstock, Wisconsin, Virginia Schmidt and husband David of Montezuma, and Delinda Lanners and husband Mark of Cimarron; two sisters, Elizabeth Eck and Katherine Schmidt both of Montezuma, one sister-in-law, Lavera Eck; 18 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two infant children, Kenneth and Cynthia Nusz; a granddaughter, Riki; three sisters; one brother; and three brothers-in-law.

Funeral service will be held at Homeland Mennonite Church, Montezuma on Tuesday November 8, 2016 at 10:30 AM with Ministers Lyndon Toews, Donald Koehn, and Darwin Koehn presiding. Burial will follow at Montezuma Mennonite Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Monday November 7, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to Bethel Home in care of the funeral home. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
