Dodge City Steamrolls Past Hays 44-14
Hays, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Dodge City allowed Hays first touchdown in nine quarters on Friday night with and then when the Indians had a glimmer of hope to win their first game at home in two years the Red Demons slam the door shut.
Dawson Williams had four touchdown runs giving him 18 for the year including a 74 yard run midway through the second quarter which was his second longest rush of the season (Great Bend, 75) as the Demons rolled to a 44-14 win in Hays.
Highlights
Tylor Garcia added two rushing scores in the second half including a 26 yarder and Dodge took advantage of a block field goal and muffed punt to get the easy win. Garcia’s touchdown runs were his second and third of the season and his fifth of the year when adding two touchdown receptions he had of 40 and 47 yards over the first two games.
Hays added two tocuhdowns. One a pass from junior quarterback Hunter Brown to tight end Mason Ibarra of 31 yards tying up the score with 4:07 left in the first quarter at 7-7. After Dodge scored 37 unanswered points, Brown found his favorite target Collyn Kreutzer for a 28 yard scoring strike midway through the 4th quarter.
Dodge City had 301 rushing yards for the game and 372 total yards gained. Dawson Williams led the attack on the ground with 18 carries for 180 yards (average of 10 per carry) and four touchdowns. Tylor Garcia rushed 16 times for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. That marked the fourth time in six games this year Garcia passed the century mark in rushing yards.
The Demons were also 5-of-9 on 3rd down conversions and converting their only attempt on fourth down with a rushing touchdown from Williams of 10 yards.
Hays rushed for 138 yards and had 137 through the air. Kholton Meyers rushed 17 times for 54 yards in the loss while Brown had 14 rushing attempts for 44 yards and was 6-13 passing for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
With the win Dodge has outscored their opponents over the last six quarters 79-14 since trailing 19-0 at half to Wichita South one week earlier. The Demons entered the Hatch game with Garden next Friday night on a two game winning streak and will be 4-2 when facing the undefeated Buffaloes at 6-0.
