Broncbuster soccer nets win over Otero
Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-Garden City Men’s coach Charles Long wanted to score more goals in 2016. He also wanted his guys to play with more tempo.
The veteran skipper saw his team accomplish both on Monday afternoon.
Alexis Lopez scored twice as the Broncbusters erased an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Otero, a team receiving votes in the top 25, 4-1 at Broncbuster Stadium.
“It feels good to get a win in front of your home crowd,” Lopez said afterwards. “When we fell down 1-0, we just took it one play at a time. That’s how we got back in the match.”
Lopez had plenty of help from teammate Rodrigo DeCastro, who knotted the match 1-1 with his goal in the 36th minute.
Then Garden City took the lead for good in the final minutes of the first half when Lopez found the back of the net. He would score again seven minutes into the second half before Abraham De La Mora capped off the scoring to score an unassisted goal in the 59th minute.
“This is why we schedule teams like this,” Long said. “We want to get ready for conference play. We could easily say we could lose these first four games. But these guys didn’t want that at all. They responded.”
Long watched his savy goalkeeper Fredric Gomez stifle the Rattlers potent offensive attack.
Garden City is back in action on Wednesday against Tabor.
